Suryaa National Desk: The state governments of Tripura and Uttarakhand have received national recognition from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for successfully integrating mental health and holistic wellbeing into their school education systems. The recognition highlights the states' efforts to incorporate emotional growth and mental resilience into classroom curricula, moving beyond traditional textbook-based learning and examinations.
In Tripura, the government implemented the 'Saharsh' project, which provides special classes led by government teachers. The program aims to help students express emotions, build positive relationships, and develop skills to manage daily stress. Approximately 4 lakh students across the state are covered by this initiative.
Uttarakhand has introduced the 'Anandam' curriculum, which allocates specific time in the daily school timetable for students to think freely, without the pressure of examinations or the fear of judgment. This program benefits approximately 5 lakh students.
Combined, these initiatives provide mental wellbeing education to nearly 9 lakh school students. NCERT experts noted that integrating these practices directly into the government education system, rather than relying on external training, represents a significant change in the field of education. Educators suggest that this model serves as a guide for other states to foster the holistic development of children.
