Suryaa News Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast near Ongole on Tuesday morning. The landfall process occurred between the Nellore and Narsapur coastal regions, with wind speeds recorded between 100 and 110 kmph, reaching a maximum intensity of 120 kmph in some areas.

The cyclone has resulted in heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds across the South Coastal Andhra districts of Prakasam, Bapatla, Nellore, Guntur, Krishna, and West Godavari. The high-velocity winds have caused trees and electricity poles to collapse in several locations. Sea conditions remain turbulent, with waves rising 1.5 to 2 meters above normal tide levels, leading to the inundation of low-lying coastal villages. Roads in several cities, including Vijayawada, are waterlogged, causing significant disruption to transportation.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is monitoring the situation and has directed district collectors to ensure the safety of residents and provide food, water, and medical facilities at relief centers. Personnel and equipment have been deployed for power restoration efforts, while NDRF and SDRF teams are conducting relief operations in the affected areas.

Due to the cyclone, South Central Railway has cancelled several trains, and airport services have been disrupted. Although the storm is weakening as it moves inland, the meteorological department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema, and several districts of Telangana over the next 24 hours. Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid going to sea and urged residents in low-lying areas to remain alert.
