Suryaa National Desk: The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship organized a special event in Guwahati aimed at providing international-level employment opportunities for youth in Northeast India. The event, focused on the PM-SETU scheme and skill training for international mobility, resulted in key agreements with the Government of Assam.
Under the PM-SETU scheme, Letters of Intent were issued for the establishment of two ITI clusters in the state, and a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for the creation of a Skill India International Center. These initiatives are intended to accelerate the alignment of vocational education with industrial requirements in the Northeast region.
The discussions emphasized skill training in the tourism and hospitality sectors, identifying these areas as vital to addressing the growing shortage of professionals in domestic and international markets. Officials stated that efforts are underway to create an environment that provides youth in the region with improved job opportunities both domestically and abroad, by aligning training programs with changing industrial needs, international standards, and global workforce mobility.
Assam Minister for Skill Development and Employment, Biswajit Daimary, attended the event as a special guest. He stated that the government's goal is to create employment opportunities for youth in Assam and the Northeast by providing modern industrial skills. He noted that the PM-SETU scheme, which modernizes ITIs through a hub-and-spoke model, will provide students with a technology-based learning experience. The minister expressed optimism that these partnerships will strengthen the skill ecosystem in the northeastern states.
The program aims to advance the implementation of the PM-SETU scheme and strengthen industry-partnered training. Officials confirmed that these joint efforts by the central and state governments will provide local youth with training in advanced technology. The event was attended by central and state government officials, industry representatives, and educators who shared perspectives on skill development.
