Suryaa Telangana Desk: Repair works are currently underway on the century-old stone conduit that supplies drinking water to Hyderabad from Gandipet (Osman Sagar). The Hyderabad Water Board announced a 36-hour shutdown from 6:00 AM on Tuesday, November 3, to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 4, to address leakages in the Sabza Colony, Tolichowki, and Manikonda areas.
Officials are accelerating repair efforts on the 20 MGD capacity conduit with the aim of completing the work ahead of schedule to restore water supply. Water Board MD K. Ashok Reddy has instructed officials to exercise special caution given the age of the structure and to prioritize quality standards to ensure a permanent solution that prevents future leakages.
The Water Board has directed that water tankers be provided to areas affected by the supply interruption. Officials from the transmission, operation, and maintenance departments have been instructed to coordinate and monitor the situation.
The Board clarified that while the city receives approximately 560 MGD of water daily from various sources, this shutdown is limited to the 20 MGD Gandipet conduit. Water supply from other sources, including Krishna, Godavari, and Singur-Manjira, remains unaffected. The Water Board has requested consumers to use available water sparingly until supply is restored.
