Suryaa International Desk: India and France have accelerated joint efforts to address global environmental challenges. During a high-level meeting in New Delhi, both nations held extensive discussions on climate finance and the priorities for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31). The discussions focused on providing financial resources to Global South countries and expanding the green energy sector.
The bilateral partnership was highlighted during the 9th International Solar Alliance (ISA) assembly. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and French representative Matthieu Lefebvre co-chaired the session. French representatives stated that the partnership aims to make solar energy affordable and accessible, support skill development, and mobilize investments for green projects.
The French delegation also participated in India's renewable energy conference held in New Delhi. During a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was reiterated that French President Emmanuel Macron remains committed to the strategic partnership. India emphasized that for the upcoming COP31 conference, pressure should be placed on wealthy nations to provide technology transfer and debt-free financial aid to developing countries, rather than limiting actions to mere promises.
The international community acknowledged India's progress in reducing carbon emissions and expanding eco-friendly transport, green hydrogen, and solar energy sectors. The meeting underscored that India and France will work as a bridge to achieve climate goals in line with the Paris Agreement. Both nations have resolved to strengthen technical cooperation and increase international funding to maintain environmental balance.
