Suryaa Telangana Desk: Doctors at Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar have issued a warning regarding the potential risks associated with firecrackers during Diwali, noting that carelessness can lead to eye injuries, burns, and respiratory problems. They emphasized that children, the elderly, and individuals suffering from asthma or COPD should take special precautions.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Madhuri Patil stated that sparks and chemicals from firecrackers can cause severe damage to the cornea and retina, potentially leading to permanent vision loss. She advised that if an eye injury occurs, one should not rub the eye or attempt home remedies, but instead consult a doctor immediately.

Senior Pulmonologist Dr. E. Ravinder Reddy noted that fine dust particles in firecracker smoke can increase coughing, wheezing, and breathing difficulties for asthma and COPD patients. He advised staying away from smoke as much as possible and keeping prescribed inhalers and emergency medications accessible.

Doctors further advised that children should only burst firecrackers under adult supervision and should not hold them in their hands. Firecrackers should be ignited in open spaces away from homes, vehicles, and flammable materials. Additionally, they recommended keeping first-aid supplies and water ready.
