Suryaa Business Desk: The Union government has launched the Semicon 2.0 portal to advance India as a global electronics and semiconductor manufacturing hub. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the portal, which initiates the application process for three strategic sectors. The mission aims to reduce reliance on foreign imports and promote the domestic production of advanced technology.
The Union Cabinet has approved 12 new projects under the electronics components manufacturing scheme. These projects involve an investment of Rs 7,503 crore and are expected to create direct employment opportunities. Officials stated that the number of approved projects under this scheme has increased, with units being established across various states. The government is implementing policies to achieve self-reliance in all stages of electronics production, from component manufacturing to assembly.
The government has allocated over Rs 1.27 lakh crore for the Semicon 2.0 scheme. The initiative encourages entrepreneurs and startups to participate in the sector. Plans are in place to expand beyond assembly into raw materials, machinery, and core chip design. Economic experts anticipate that these measures will increase the value of electronics production in the country and enhance the presence of Indian brands in the international market.
