Suryaa International Desk: China and Gabon have elevated their bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Following official discussions in Beijing between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, both nations announced the upgrade of their ties to a new era of shared future.

The leaders issued a joint statement agreeing to expand cooperation in the sectors of mining, security, and infrastructure. These agreements were reached during President Nguema’s visit to China. As part of his visit, the Gabonese President also attended the ninth China International Import Expo in Shanghai to discuss bilateral trade opportunities.

Key topics during the visit included China’s zero-tariff policies for African nations and industrial cooperation. Both countries decided to increase Chinese investment in the extraction of Gabon’s mineral resources and to strengthen their strategic partnership in defense and security.

This visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China aims to expand its influence in Africa by deepening ties with resource-rich Gabon, while the Gabonese government expects the partnership to assist in national economic reconstruction and the attraction of foreign investment. The focus on industrial development, infrastructure, and technology remains a point of international discussion.
