Suryaa International Desk: Following the Democratic Party's recent performance in the mid-term elections, Maxine Waters, the most senior Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, has announced her candidacy for the committee chair position. In a letter to fellow Democratic lawmakers, Waters stated that proven leadership is necessary to address the economic policies of the Trump administration.

Waters, 88, is seeking the position, while 54-year-old committee member Sean Casten is also competing for the role. In her letter, Waters highlighted her experience and outlined her focus areas, which include affordable housing, defending the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), medical debt, and credit reporting.

The Democratic Party recently secured majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. As the party prepares for legislative oversight and the management of economic and banking policies, the leadership contest for the House Financial Services Committee has drawn attention within political circles.
