Suryaa Sports Desk: Significant discussions are currently underway regarding player auction and retention rules for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Reports indicate that top-tier Indian players are demanding a retention fee of Rs 40 crore from their respective franchises ahead of the upcoming mega auction.
This demand has caused concern among franchise owners, as it threatens to disrupt budget calculations. Analysts estimate that a Rs 40 crore salary for a single player would account for more than 25 percent of a franchise's total purse. Franchises have expressed concern that such high expenditure on one player could affect team balance and limit the budget available to acquire other quality players.
The demands are reportedly based on the players' market appeal, match-winning capabilities, and captaincy responsibilities. Sources suggest that if franchises do not meet these demands, some players may opt to enter the auction to secure higher bids. Previously, Rishabh Pant set an IPL record with a price of Rs 27 crore.
While the BCCI is considering increasing the purse limit for teams, these salary demands remain a potential burden, particularly for smaller teams. It remains to be seen how the franchises and the board will respond to these developments as the mega auction approaches.
