Suryaa Business Desk: TikTok parent company ByteDance is preparing to launch a standalone e-commerce shopping app. This move is intended to challenge major online retail platforms, including Amazon, Temu, and Shein.

Currently, TikTok operates a "TikTok Shop" section within its primary social media application, which allows users to purchase products through influencer videos and live streams. ByteDance is now designing a dedicated shopping app to attract consumers focused specifically on online retail, while aiming to avoid disrupting the experience for users primarily interested in video entertainment.

The new application is expected to feature catalogs, search tools, deals, and discount sections, similar to traditional e-commerce marketplaces. Tech analysts suggest that ByteDance aims to challenge Amazon's dominance in daily product orders, moving beyond social media-based sales.

TikTok Shop has already recorded significant transaction volumes in the United States and Southeast Asian countries. The introduction of a standalone app could allow for the expansion of delivery, logistics, and warehousing systems. Meanwhile, Amazon continues to integrate social media features into its own platform as both companies adopt each other's strategies in the digital retail market.
