Suryaa Telangana Desk: The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) has stated that the government is focusing on identifying alternative water sources for industrial use due to the impact of El Nino and drought conditions in the state. Officials held a meeting with representatives of the Jeedimetla Industries Association (JIA) at the TGPCB Hyderabad zonal office in Begumpet to discuss the reuse of treated industrial and sewage water.

Officials advised industrialists to explore the use of treated domestic sewage from local bodies and gated community Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) instead of discharging it into drains. The board directed industries to reduce reliance on groundwater and fresh water for non-drinking purposes, such as cooling towers and manufacturing processes, by adopting treated wastewater as an alternative.

Following the meeting, industry representatives visited the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) managed by Jeedimetla Effluent Treatment Limited (JETL) to observe the water treatment process. Officials noted that the JETL plant currently has the capacity to provide approximately 1.2 million liters of treated, high-quality wastewater per day for reuse.

The TGPCB emphasized that utilizing treated water in industrial areas will save significant amounts of fresh drinking water, allowing those resources to be diverted for public consumption. The board has requested all industries in the Jeedimetla industrial area to immediately begin using treated wastewater to assist in preventing a water crisis.
