Suryaa Business Desk: The domestic services sector has gained momentum, with business activity accelerating in October. The HSBC India Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) reached 55.8 points, an increase from the 55.2 points recorded in September. This figure represents the highest level in the past four months.
Economic data indicates that increased domestic consumption demand and a rise in new orders have provided support to the services sector. A PMI reading above 50 points signifies growth or expansion within the sector. The consistent monthly positive trend is viewed as an indicator of the strength of India's economic foundation.
While there was an increase in new orders, companies experienced relief as the rate of growth in cost burdens and raw material prices slowed. With production costs becoming more controlled, service providers limited price increases, which contributed to higher client orders and market expansion.
Service sector firms remain optimistic about future business prospects due to the acquisition of new clients and steady demand. Although job creation slowed in October, industry sources express hope that as business expansion continues, more employment opportunities may become available in the services and production sectors in the coming months.
