Suryaa International Desk: Technology giant HP Inc. has officially announced the appointment of Emma Walmsley as its next Chief Executive Officer. Walmsley, the former chief of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), served as CEO of the biopharmaceutical company for nearly nine years.
Walmsley will officially assume her new responsibilities on January 4. She replaces Bruce Broussard, who has been serving as the interim CEO. Broussard will transition to the role of Board Chairman.
The HP board selected Walmsley based on her corporate leadership capabilities and her record of business transformation, despite her lack of direct experience in the technology hardware sector. An alumna of Oxford University, Walmsley previously held various management roles during a long tenure at L'Oréal before joining GSK, where she played a key role in strategic changes and business restructuring. In 2020, she received the Dame Commander (DBE) honor from the British government for her services to business and the pharmaceutical industry.
HP board members expressed confidence that her leadership will help guide the company through the era of artificial intelligence and modern technology. Walmsley, who also has experience as a director on the Microsoft board, is now tasked with driving digital innovation and growth for HP, which operates in over 180 countries. Market analysts anticipate that her appointment will strengthen HP’s global presence in the technology sector.
