Suryaa National Desk: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and opposition leader Naveen Patnaik have announced the cancellation of official Diwali celebrations in solidarity with the people affected by the recent cyclone and floods in the state. The decision was made in light of the significant property damage and the displacement of thousands of people in the southern districts.
The Chief Minister’s Office stated that all Diwali festivities scheduled at the Chief Minister's residence have been cancelled. The Chief Minister has requested that the public refrain from bringing gifts or bouquets to his residence during the festival. He urged citizens to support those suffering in the flood-affected regions and to provide assistance where possible, noting that it is appropriate for the head of the government to abstain from celebrations during such hardships.
Opposition leader Naveen Patnaik expressed concern over the unprecedented damage caused by floods in Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal districts. He noted that rescue operations are ongoing for those trapped by landslides. The BJD leader stated that he has decided not to celebrate Diwali this year as the public is in deep distress.
