Suryaa Business Desk: The central government has set a target to raise over Rs 15,000 crore in the 2026-27 financial year (FY27) through the monetization of surplus and non-performing land and real estate assets owned by Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs). The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) under the Ministry of Finance is intensifying efforts to accelerate the disinvestment and asset monetization process.

The monetization plan primarily focuses on prime land and buildings belonging to loss-making telecom entities, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). Arrangements are being made to sell unused commercial and residential properties in major cities like Mumbai and Delhi, as well as in secondary cities, through a transparent e-auction process conducted by the National Land Monetization Corporation.

Experts believe that bringing unused CPSE assets into commercial use will generate non-tax revenue for the government and help reduce the debt burden of these public sector organizations. The central government is preparing special guidelines to expedite the resolution of legal hurdles and local approval processes to meet the targets within the specified timeframe.
