Surya National & Political Desk, Chandigarh: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced a key initiative to eradicate the drug epidemic plaguing the border state of Punjab. He set a clear deadline to make Punjab free of synthetic drugs (chitta) by December 31, 2029 and make it a complete 'Nasha Mukt Punjab'.

He revealed that drug eradication will be the main agenda of Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Amit Shah said during his visit to Punjab that the entire country has seen how the Narendra Modi government has kept its promise on key issues such as the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, suppression of terrorism in the North-Eastern states and the decisive fight against Naxalism in the country. He assured that with the same determination, the drug mafia in Punjab will be defeated and the future of the youth will be protected. He said that due to the failure of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, the problem of drugs in the state has gone out of control, and if BJP is given a chance, they will make the state drug free within the stipulated time.

Relentless war on drug rackets: Amit Shah stated that strong surveillance has been set up in coordination with Central Investigation Agencies and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to crack down on dark-net, cryptocurrency and international supply networks, along with blocking cross-border smuggling from Pakistan through drones. He made it clear that action under the NDPS Act will be accelerated to punish the key masterminds of the drug trade and new centers will be set up for the rehabilitation of innocent youth.
