Suryaa Telangana Desk: The Civil Supplies Department and vigilance teams have conducted widespread inspections across Telangana to address illegal price hikes and fraudulent sales of rice. Officials confirmed that 370 cases have been registered following the discovery of irregularities involving traders and rice millers.

The Legal Metrology Department identified instances where 26-kilogram labels were placed on 25-kilogram bags to deceive consumers. Consequently, the government has made the printing of the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) mandatory on all rice packets.

To prevent consumer exploitation, the government has established maximum price limits based on rice varieties. The price for Telangana Sona (RNR) must not exceed Rs 74 per kilogram, while BPT/KNM varieties are capped at Rs 66 per kilogram, and HMT/JSR varieties at Rs 79 per kilogram. Authorities have warned of strict action against those selling above these specified rates.

Furthermore, the government stated that the Preventive Detention (PD) Act will be invoked against those found illegally storing or diverting PDS (ration) rice to the black market.
