Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) authorities have started preparations to raze more than 200 advocates' chambers as per the clear orders issued by the Allahabad High Court Lucknow Bench. Strongly opposing this decision, a large number of lawyers came on the roads and protested, creating a tense atmosphere in the surrounding areas of the court.
High Court Orders – Actions by Municipal Corporation: The High Court has earlier issued guidelines to remove unauthorized constructions in the vicinity of court premises, government places, footpaths and areas obstructing traffic. In this context: The municipal administration is ready for demolition with heavy bulldozers and police force. The officials of the city governing body clarified that the removal of encroachments is being done as a part of implementing the legal orders. Heavy paramilitary and police forces were deployed to prevent any law and order problems. Lawyers sit on roads – Disruption of legal duties: Hundreds of lawyers under the auspices of the Bar Association boycotted their duties and took to the protest road to condemn the municipal actions: Lawyers have expressed their anger that it is unfair to carry out demolitions unilaterally without allotting alternative places or modern chambers to advocates who have been practicing for decades.
They marched on the roads and raised slogans against the government and municipal officials. Due to this, the traffic on the court roads was blocked. The representatives of the lawyers' associations have warned that the demolition process should be stopped immediately and their struggle will continue until an alternative solution is found in consultation with senior judges and administrative officials.
