Suryaa National Desk: Surya Bureau, Hyderabad/Mumbai: To positively consider the proposal to raise the height of the prestigious Tummidihetti barrage on the Pranahita River... Surya Bureau, Hyderabad/Mumbai: Telangana CM A. Revanth Reddy thanked Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for agreeing to positively consider the proposal to raise the height of the prestigious Tummidihetti barrage on Pranahita river. In a high-level bilateral meeting held in Mumbai, the Chief Ministers of both the states extensively discussed the issues of inter-state irrigation and the technical aspects of the Tummidihetti project. Revanth Reddy welcomed the positive attitude shown by the Maharashtra government on this project which is very important for the interests of Telangana farmers.
The Telangana team explained that by increasing the height of the barrage to 152 meters, water can be easily moved by gravity method, as it has become technically complicated to move water at 148 meters in the past. CM Revanth Reddy has made it clear to the Maharashtra government that this will not only reduce electricity consumption significantly but will also provide ample irrigation to around two lakh acres of Ayakattu in the joint Adilabad district. Officials explained through a power point presentation that a new comprehensive plan has been prepared so that only the lands in the river catchment areas are acquired so that no villages are inundated. Formation of joint study committee – Fadnavis's positive decision: Reacting to Telangana's request, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that they are ready to solve the problems between the neighboring states with brotherhood. It has been decided to set up a joint committee with engineering officers and technical experts of both the states to comprehensively examine technical and environmental issues such as raising the height of the barrage, availability of water, area of land subject to flooding, compensation.
The final action will be finalized within a specific time frame, taking into consideration the studies of the Central Water Commission (CWC). Invitation to Invest Telangana Summit: Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy along with top officials of both states participated in this meeting. After the discussions, CM Revanth Reddy cordially invited Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis to attend the prestigious 'Invest Telangana Global Summit' (IT Global Summit) to be held in Hyderabad from December 7 to 9.
