Suryaa National Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. During the event, the Prime Minister called upon startups, IITs, and innovators to develop round-the-clock all-weather solar models, rooftop solar cooking solutions, and electric vehicle charging facilities. He stated that the new era of the solar revolution depends on innovation rather than just the adoption of existing technology, noting that these advancements could help middle-class families save thousands of rupees on electricity bills annually.
The Prime Minister highlighted that India has achieved high economic growth while effectively navigating global challenges, including energy crises, the COVID-19 pandemic, and conflicts in West Asia. He attributed India’s protection from external shocks to sustained domestic investments and systemic reforms in the clean energy sector over the past decade. India aims to reach 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, having already achieved over 300 gigawatts. Plans are in place to add another 500 gigawatts of non-fossil capacity in the coming decade.
Regarding the PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme, the Prime Minister reported that over 6.5 million households have installed solar rooftops within 24 to 25 months. He noted that the scheme has reduced electricity bills for consumers by approximately 76 percent, with many families earning income by selling surplus power to the grid. Additionally, under the KUSUM scheme, over 3 million farmers have been provided with solar pumps, resulting in annual savings for the agricultural sector.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India’s progress in green energy is due to prioritizing the domestic manufacturing sector. He stated that solar module manufacturing capacity has increased from 2 gigawatts a decade ago to over 200 gigawatts today, citing the success of the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. The summit was attended by representatives from the ninth assembly of the International Solar Alliance and the fourth Green Hydrogen summit. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to attracting investments in the green energy sector and supporting global efforts for a sustainable future.
