Suryaa National Desk: The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has initiated new environmental policies aimed at balancing economic growth with environmental protection to build a clean and self-reliant nation. The country is advancing by strengthening the renewable energy sector, promoting green hydrogen production, and developing technologies to reduce industrial carbon emissions. Experts in economy and environment state that India’s development path is built on the pillars of energy security, scientific innovation, and environmental protection.

The government has approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission with an estimated cost of Rs 19,744 crore to boost domestic production. The mission aims to achieve a production capacity of at least 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen per annum by 2030. This scheme is expected to attract over Rs 8 lakh crore in investments and create job opportunities for approximately 6 lakh youth. Plans are in place to use green hydrogen as an alternative to traditional fuels in sectors such as fertilizers, petroleum refineries, steel manufacturing, and transportation to significantly reduce carbon emissions.

Additionally, the central government is promoting Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technology. A sum of Rs 20,000 crore has been allocated over five years to encourage CCUS in the steel, cement, chemical, and power generation sectors. India’s first integrated CCUS field laboratory has been launched at IIT Bombay, which accelerates projects to capture and safely store three tonnes of carbon dioxide daily from industrial emissions.

This green initiative aims to foster new industries, create jobs, and encourage innovation. It is estimated that green hydrogen and carbon management practices could prevent approximately 50 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere annually. Analysts believe this green vision is a key milestone in achieving the net-zero emissions target by 2070 and building a developed India by 2047.
