Suryaa Business Desk: Surya Business Bureau, New Delhi: Consumers' Center has issued a warning against misleading commercials and sales of products that go against the rules. Surya Business Bureau, New Delhi: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has cracked down on misleading commercials and sale of illegal products. The CCPA has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on leading sales firm Hogar Technologies and Innovations LLP for conducting false advertising by hiding key information in the sale of walkie-talkies. The strict measures have been taken as part of a wider check on illegal sales on online platforms under the supervision of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
Violation of rules and grounds for penalty: The sale of wireless communication devices such as walkie-talkies should clearly disclose details of their operating frequency, licensing requirements and statutory permissions. However, officials found that Hogar Technologies had violated these norms in the promotion of its products. This penalty was imposed under the Consumer Protection Act-2019 after it was found that the advertisements were given in a misleading manner to the consumers without clarifying whether the devices can be used by common citizens without a license. Continuous vigilance on e-commerce platforms: CCPA has conducted a nationwide sweep against the illegal sale of walkie-talkies.
The authorities have already issued notices and imposed heavy fines on several prominent online commerce giants after identifying thousands of listings in violation of rules on popular e-commerce sites. In view of the country's security and telecom regulations, the officials have warned that there should be complete transparency in the sale of wireless devices and stricter action will be taken against the sellers who do not comply with the regulations.
