Leading French energy giant 'ENGIE' plans to further expand its business operations in India. India is emerging as a key growth market with new market reforms underway in the country and aggressive wind and solar power sectors, the firm said.
The sources of the company have made it clear that they will focus heavily on the development of state-of-the-art Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) along with renewable energy sources. Engi is stepping up its investments to meet the green energy targets set by the Government of India. The company said it has already operationalized around 2 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity through various projects across the country. It has been revealed that it aims to increase this to 7 gigawatts (7 GW) by 2030.
It is reported that plans have been made to invest around 3 billion euros for this expansion. Engi said that improving power exchange and hedging facilities in the Indian power market is creating a very positive environment for international investors. However, the company has expressed confidence that the problem will be resolved in the coming days with the help of the government, even though there are temporary power outages due to problems in some parts of the transmission grid infrastructure. Engi has made it clear that it will provide the latest technology-based solutions in line with India's progress in the clean energy sector.
