Suryaa National Desk: Surya Political & National Desk: Senior Congress leader, Rajya Sabha Member Digvijay Singh Central Election Commission (ECI) on election process, voter list revision procedures... Surya Political & National Desk: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Digvijay Singh has seriously questioned the ECI's stance on the electoral process and electoral roll revision procedures. He has written an official letter to the Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar expressing the need for Special Summary Revision (SSR) process of voters and raising objections on the current procedures. EC has been demanded to give a comprehensive explanation on the necessity of this process to be undertaken every time in view of the existing regulations and available technology.
Concern over transparency in voter list preparation: In his letter, Digvijay Singh prominently mentioned the errors in preparation and correction of voter lists. Allegations were raised that votes of eligible citizens were being illegally deleted in the name of SSR process and bogus votes were being added to the lists due to lack of field level monitoring. The Central Election Commission was asked to answer what concrete steps are being taken to increase transparency in the appointment of Booth Level Officers (BLO) and increase transparency in their duties to maintain credibility in the conduct of elections. Gyanesh Kumar demands clarification: Digvijay clarified that a clean and error-free voter list is the key foundation for conducting fair elections in a democracy.
Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was asked to ensure that there is no non-political interference in the electoral roll revision process and to organize a special all-party meeting with the representatives of political parties on this issue to clear the doubts. This letter written by a senior Congress leader has become a topic of discussion in national politics at a time when the general and local body elections are approaching.
