Suryaa National Desk: After two years in the life of a young woman who suffered the worst of Maoist violence in Chhattisgarh's troubled Bastar division... Two years later, new hope has sprung up in the life of a young woman who suffered the worst of Maoist violence in Chhattisgarh's troubled Bastar division. Madkam Sukki, a 20-year-old tribal girl from Bhimapuram village in Sukma district, was able to stand on her own feet again with the help of a government-provided arm brace two years after she lost her left leg in a pressure IED explosion planted by Maoists. In the distribution program of special assistive devices organized by the Dantewada district administration, the officials gave her a state-of-the-art prosthetic limb free of charge. Tragedy while collecting flowers in the forest: On the morning of 26th May 2024, Madkam Sukki went to collect flowers (mahua) in the nearby forest along with her friend.

At that time, she accidentally stepped on a pressure IED planted in the ground by the Maoists to target the security forces, causing a huge explosion. Her left leg was badly broken in this incident. Family members and police rushed her to the Raipur hospital, where doctors had to amputate her left leg below the knee to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts. Hell for two years – walking again today: After losing her leg, Sukki, who lives with her younger brother and stepfather, was unable to do housework or play with her peers and was confined to her bed. However, she was identified and fitted with an artificial leg in a mega relief camp set up for the rehabilitation of handicapped and Maoist victims under the auspices of the Dantewada district administration.

Sukki feels that being able to walk normally again is like a rebirth for her and she owes it to the machine that changed her life. Benefit to more than 760 victims in Bastar region: As part of this rehabilitation program, 509 people from Dantewada, 197 people from Bijapur and 62 people from Sukma district were distributed free of cost to a total of 768 beneficiaries. In addition to artificial legs and arms, wheelchairs, tricycles, walking sticks, hearing aids and special spectacles were provided to the visually impaired. On this occasion, the officials disclosed that the government will stand by all means to bring the victims in the Naxal affected areas into the mainstream of society and live with self-confidence.
