Surya International Bureau, Sanaa/Geneva: The leading international medical aid organization 'Doctors Without Borders' (MSF) has expressed grave concern that the medical and health services in Yemen, which is reeling from civil war and airstrikes, are at risk of almost being paralyzed. It warned that due to the ongoing bombings and military clashes, the common citizens are completely deprived of basic health care. It has been revealed that hospitals, ambulances and health centers are being attacked or bombs are raining near them and patients are unable to come for treatment in fear of their lives.

Protection of medical personnel and hospitals urgent: MSF has made it clear in its official statement that humanitarian aid workers and doctors, who are working hard to reach the common people in crisis, are facing direct risks due to the latest attacks. It appealed to all parties to the conflict to ensure full protection of hospitals, medical staff and patients in accordance with international humanitarian law. Emergency surgeries, births and treatment for life-threatening diseases in remote areas are being halted due to fuel shortages, blockades of transport routes and destruction of infrastructure, it said. Aggravating humanitarian crisis: With malnutrition, diarrhea and cholera already rampant in Yemen, stopping the flow of patients to health centers could have devastating consequences, the organization's representatives warned.

It expressed concern that if the targeting of medical services is not stopped immediately, thousands of innocent people will lose their lives to preventable diseases. The international community has demanded immediate intervention and assistance in rebuilding the health infrastructure in Yemen.
