Suryaa National Desk: The central government has inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art seismic observatory in the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir. The facility was officially opened by Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh.

The Minister stated that this observatory is part of an effort to rapidly expand the weather and earthquake surveillance network across the country. He noted that the center will assist in accurately predicting natural threats such as avalanches, landslides, and earthquakes.

Dr. Singh highlighted that the number of seismic observation centers in India has increased significantly over the past few years, allowing scientists to monitor internal earth movements with greater precision. He added that the installation of such modern technology in mountainous and avalanche-prone areas is intended to support the safety of local residents.

During the event, the progress of various projects aimed at assessing climate changes in remote mountainous regions of North India was reviewed. The Minister emphasized that the government's primary goal is to achieve self-reliance in disaster management by developing science and technology in line with the Digital India vision. Experts expressed confidence that this new observatory will serve as a foundation for scientific research and regional security.
