Suryaa National Desk: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla stated that consensus and differences are two sides of the same coin in a healthy and active democracy. He was speaking as the chief guest at a conference for public representatives held in Panchkula, organized by the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
Birla expressed that despite varying political ideologies and differences of opinion, the ultimate goal of all public representatives should be the progress of the nation and the state. He emphasized that better governance and transparency are possible only by respecting differences and embracing new perspectives.
During the event, held as part of constitutional celebrations, Birla praised Haryana's six-decade journey of progress. He specifically commended the state's farmers for modernizing the agricultural sector and serving as the nation's food provider. He also lauded the youth for their contribution to border security and athletes for representing India on international platforms.
Describing the Indian Constitution, drafted under the leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Birla stated that it is not merely a document for government administration but the soul of the nation and a reflection of the aspirations of millions. He advised public representatives that public service does not end with the conclusion of their legislative tenure and urged them to continue working for the welfare of the people. He added that the true success of political governance lies in bringing positive changes to the lives of the poorest families in society.
Birla further praised the Haryana Assembly for setting an example for other state legislatures by maintaining high standards of debate and upholding the dignity of the house over its sixty-year history.
The conference was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, along with various ministers, former MLAs, and public representatives. Participants noted that such discussions contribute significantly to strengthening democratic systems and enhancing the prestige of legislative bodies.
