Suryaa Sports Desk: Domestic leading natural gas company GAIL (Bharat) Ltd. is planning to further modernize its Ratnagiri LNG terminal in Maharashtra... Domestic leading natural gas company GAIL (Bharat) Limited has announced a major plan to further modernize its Ratnagiri LNG terminal in Maharashtra. A state-of-the-art heating unit will be installed at an estimated cost of around $63 million (over Rs 500 crore in Indian currency) to increase the capacity of the terminal and further speed up operations, a company official revealed. The creation of this new infrastructure will improve terminal performance and expand the capacity to rapidly gasify ships' liquefied natural gas.
According to the representatives of the company, this new heating unit will be very useful in effectively overcoming the climatic challenges faced by the Konkan LNG terminal at Ratnagiri during the rainy season. Generally, changes in temperature during winter and rainy season cause problems such as slow down the LNG regasification process or require additional fuel. If this new system becomes available, it will pave the way for continuous LNG processing even in adverse weather conditions. GAIL India is improving infrastructure on a large scale to meet the ever-increasing natural gas demand in the country. This investment will play a key role in strengthening the gas-based economy in line with the central government's focus on clean energy use.
These steps taken by GAIL are expected to have a significant impact to ensure continuous fuel supply to industries, power plants and CNG networks across the country. After the completion of this project, the annual capacity of the Ratnagiri terminal will not only increase significantly, but the gas transportation system in the western region of India will be further strengthened. Sources of the company are hopeful that the heating unit will be built with eco-friendly technologies and will reduce operating costs and increase energy efficiency. This investment will mark another milestone in GAIL's continued leadership in the gas transportation and LNG sector.
