Veteran director Kamal, who has delivered classic films in the Malayalam film industry, recalls an interesting incident in his career. Sharing the details behind the making of the 1990s hit film 'Malayetum Mumpe', he reveals how a small quip from Mammootty made the project take shape.
At that time, director Kamal was mostly making a series of successful films with Mohanlal, so Mammootty joked with him, "You only make films with Mohanlal, don't you?" He commented. Taking Mammootty's comment as a great opportunity rather than a challenge, director Kamal immediately set to work with writer Srinivasan to prepare a good story. The film that took shape like that is 'Malayetum Mumpe'. Mammootty has given an excellent performance in the role of a college professor in this movie.
Opposite him, Shobhana and Shobhana Krishnan acted in leading roles, while Srinivasan's story and Kamal's directorial talent made this film a huge success at the box office. After the release of this movie, it was praised by the critics as well as achieved huge collections at the box office and has gone down in the history of Malayalam cinema. Director Kamal is delighted that a small witty conversation has finally turned into a brilliant classic film. He recalled on the occasion that Mammootty's acting, Srinivasan's brilliant script and Ravindran's music played a vital role in the film's success.
