Suryaa International Desk: A significant development has occurred in the legal dispute regarding the Washington DC golf course project initiated during Donald Trump’s presidency. US District Court Judge Ana Reyes has issued an order proposing former federal prosecutor Jessie Liu as a special master to investigate whether government attorneys misled the court or committed ethical violations.

The investigation will focus on the conduct of government attorneys during proceedings related to lawsuits filed against the redevelopment of the East Potomac Park Golf Course in Washington. Jessie Liu, who served as the US Attorney for Washington DC during Trump’s first term, will conduct an inquiry into the golf course construction plans, government arguments, and allegations of court order violations. Judge Reyes expressed dissatisfaction, noting that the government continued to accelerate construction work while simultaneously claiming there were no final plans for the project.

The Department of the Interior has responded to the development, criticizing the judge’s order and alleging that efforts are being made to obstruct the decisions of the Trump administration. Government sources argue that the lawsuits are hindering efforts to beautify the nation’s capital. Conversely, local residents and several non-profit organizations have approached the court, alleging that the project violates environmental laws and congressional conservation acts.

Both parties have been ordered to submit their responses regarding the appointment of the special master to the court by mid-November. The court’s focus on legal regulations and ethical standards, contrasted with the administration's push to complete the redevelopment, has become a subject of national discussion.
