Suryaa Sports Desk: The five-match ODI series between India and New Zealand begins this Wednesday at the historic Eden Park in Auckland. Interest in this series is high due to the return of senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The Indian team management views this series as crucial for building a strong squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

The Indian top order features captain Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma as openers, followed by Virat Kohli at number three and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer at number four. KL Rahul is expected to take the fifth spot as the wicket-keeper batter. Axar Patel will serve as the spin all-rounder, with either Nitish Kumar Reddy or Naman Dhir likely to be included.

In the bowling department, Kuldeep Yadav is set to play as the specialist spinner. Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh will lead the pace attack, with Anshul Kamboj or Gurnoor Brar competing for the third fast-bowling position. New Zealand faces challenges as key players, including Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra, are sidelined due to injuries.

Eden Park presents a significant challenge for the Indian team due to its unique shape and short boundaries, which complicate fielding strategies. India has won only four of the 11 ODIs previously played at this venue. The team aims to overcome these challenges and secure a strong start to the series to build confidence for the 2027 World Cup preparations.
