Stagnant supply.. Common people are suffering! Surya International Desk, Islamabad: In Pakistan, which is reeling under severe economic crisis, the shortage of domestic fuel has reached its peak.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply in Pakistan has been completely stopped due to closure of border crossings with Iran. This created an artificial shortage in the open market and the price of an 11.8 kg household LPG cylinder rose to a record high of Rs.7,000 in just a few days. The situation has become more miserable in the border areas and the price of a cylinder in the black market is ranging from Rs.7,500 to Rs.8,000 in many places. 7,000 tonne daily import ban: Around 7,000 metric tonne LPG is imported from Iran every day for fuel needs in Pakistan. However, since October 17, the border crossings of Gabda-Rindan and Taftan have been closed by the Iranian authorities. Hundreds of gas tankers were stopped at the borders as these measures were taken in the name of security checks and curbing smuggling.
In addition to this, despite ongoing talks between Pakistani military officials and Iranian diplomats in Tehran, traffic has not yet been restored. Plight of common people during winter: As the supply of pipeline gas in the country falls in the early stages of winter, people are completely dependent on LPG cylinders. Pakistan LPG Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar has expressed concern that due to the border closure, there has been a severe gas shortage in the provinces of Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh in Pakistan. Common people complain that the black market traders are looting and the prices of essential commodities are skyrocketing due to this effect on the hotels and transport sector as well.
