Suryaa National Desk: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken strict action against manufacturers of fake and adulterated food products. Keeping the festive season in view, officials conducted nationwide special inspections over the past two months and seized substandard and adulterated food stocks valued at Rs 81.8 crore. Additionally, licenses of more than 1,100 business establishments that violated food safety regulations were either suspended or completely canceled.

During this two-month special operation, food safety officials carried out extensive raids on manufacturing units and wholesale godowns dealing in dairy products, ghee, edible oils, sweets, and spices. Thousands of samples collected across the country were sent to laboratories for testing, where a large number of samples were found to contain dangerous chemicals, prohibited synthetic dyes, and substandard materials. Cases were registered and heavy fines were imposed on establishments operating against regulations.

Senior FSSAI officials stated that the drive was conducted with the goal of providing clean and safe food to the public. They announced that clear instructions have been issued to state food safety departments to register criminal cases against adulterators. Officials also advised consumers to thoroughly inspect label details, FSSAI license numbers, and expiry dates when purchasing packaged food items, and to file complaints through the official portal if adulteration is suspected.
