Suryaa International Desk: European nations have set a firm condition for Moscow regarding potential security discussions: Russia must immediately cease its military operations in Ukraine before any dialogue on security concerns or demands can take place. European officials have rejected demands made by Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning the reversal of NATO expansion in Eastern Europe.
European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas stated in Warsaw that a stable security system already exists in Europe. She asserted that the core issue is Russia’s disregard for international agreements. European nations argue that discussing new security arrangements while Russia continues to violate existing agreements and conduct attacks on Ukraine is unreasonable. They emphasized that the primary goal of the current security system is to prevent Russian aggression, making it impossible to negotiate security guarantees while attacks persist.
This development follows reports that the administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing for a potential agreement with Russia to resolve the Ukraine crisis. European allies have expressed dissatisfaction with US proposals to reorganize security for Ukraine and Europe. Foreign ministers from countries including Poland and Ukraine have cautioned against making unilateral decisions regarding European security and future stability without the participation of European nations.
Trilateral peace talks involving high-level officials from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States are scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi next week. This will mark the first time both sides have met directly since February. International political analysts suggest that Europe's insistence on a Russian withdrawal and a cessation of hostilities before engaging in security talks may lead to a new impasse in the peace process.
