Domestic Stock Markets Witness Volatility Amid Global and Local Developments

Suryaa Business Desk: Domestic stock markets concluded the week with significant volatility amid a mix of international and domestic developments. Key talking points included fluctuations in technology shares, the resumption of net buying by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), and banking sector instability in international markets. Benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, attempted to maintain key support levels as sectoral rotation influenced investor trading strategies.

Concerns regarding artificial intelligence expenditures and valuations impacted domestic IT company shares. Profit booking was observed in major IT stocks including TCS, Infosys, and HCL Tech. Expectations of delays in technology spending by international clients, amid a global economic slowdown, led to caution among traders, causing the Nifty IT index to face pressure and undergo consolidation.

Despite selling in tech shares, the return of FIIs as net buyers in domestic equities provided support to the indices. FIIs invested heavily in banking, auto, and capital goods sectors, supported by a stable dollar index, domestic GST collections, and strong macroeconomic data. This foreign buying, combined with consistent support from Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs), prevented a major decline in benchmark indices.

Separately, reports of management failures and liquidity shortages at certain regional banks in international markets caused temporary concerns in global equities. Market analysts noted that the Indian banking sector remains robust in terms of capital adequacy and bad loan control, limiting the impact of this global shock on domestic banking shares. Experts suggest that future market direction will be determined by international central bank interest rate policies and the conclusion of Q2 results.
