According to the latest data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in the city dropped below normal to 18.6 degree Celsius. The Meteorological Center has predicted that the maximum temperature will be around 34 degrees Celsius, with chilly winds blowing in the morning and night hours.
Also, the humidity in the morning was recorded at around 74 percent. On the other hand, even though the temperatures are decreasing, the air quality in the city is currently at a comfortable level. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) report, the average air quality index (AQI) in the city remains in the 'moderate' category at 152. Generally, an air quality index between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', between 51 and 100 as 'satisfactory' and between 101 and 200 as 'moderate'. Although Delhi's climate is moderate at present, there are chances of the pollution intensity increasing as winter progresses.
Experts have warned that the air quality could deteriorate to 'Poor' or 'Very Poor' levels in the coming days if temperatures drop further, wind speed slows and stubble burning intensifies in neighboring states. In this context, the Delhi government and the municipal administration are continuously monitoring the air pollution prevention measures. Special attention was paid to the use of anti-smog guns and dust control in construction sites.
