Tesla to Halt Cybertruck Production at Texas Gigafactory

Suryaa Business Desk: Tesla has announced a decision regarding the production of its Cybertruck electric pickup. The company plans to completely dismantle the Cybertruck production line at its Texas Gigafactory by the middle of next year. CEO Elon Musk stated that an additional production shift will be implemented to fulfill pending orders before the line is closed. This shift aims to deliver as many vehicles as possible to customers, as the order book has exceeded expectations.

Following the removal of the Cybertruck line, Tesla plans to expand the production of its Cybercab robotaxi at the facility. This strategic shift is part of the company's focus on artificial intelligence and robotics. Although the Cybertruck, which reached customers in late 2023, attracted attention for its stainless steel design, sales have declined due to high prices, recalls, and strict regulations in international markets like Europe.

With Cybertruck sales falling over the past year, Tesla is shifting its future plans toward autonomous vehicles. The company is prioritizing the production of the two-seater Cybercab. Similar to previous adjustments made to Model S and Model X lines for the manufacturing of Optimus humanoid robots, Tesla is now repurposing the Cybertruck space for robotaxis. The Cybertruck production line is expected to be fully removed by June or July, with the site transitioning into a manufacturing center for robotaxis.
