Tech and Energy Sectors Face Uncertainty Over Potential Data Center Regulations

Suryaa Business Desk: The recent US election results have created uncertainty for the technology and energy sectors, with analysts anticipating potential new regulations or restrictions on data centers essential for artificial intelligence development. Market experts suggest that these developments could lead to construction delays or project moratoriums for several companies.

Firms including CoreWeave, Applied Digital, TeraWulf, Iren, and Core Scientific are identified as facing potential risks. Analysts warn that if stricter regulations regarding local resources and power consumption are implemented, the growth of these small and mid-sized data center developers could slow.

The impact extends to power equipment manufacturers and utility companies. Shares of GE Vernova have declined, while Innio, a manufacturer of gas engines, has reported a slowdown in bookings from the Texas market. Experts suggest that any limitations placed on data center expansion could negatively affect the growth of these equipment and energy suppliers.

Conversely, industry experts believe that major hyperscalers such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet (Google) are better positioned to withstand these political developments. While the pace of new data center construction may slow, analysts note that the value of existing infrastructure could rise, potentially providing relief to large companies currently managing significant capital expenditure.
