Suryaa Entertainment Desk: The Tamil Nadu government has granted permission for theaters to conduct six screenings per day during the first week of new film releases. This decision allows for screenings to take place from 6:00 AM until 2:30 AM the following day.
Thiruppur Subramaniam, president of the Tamil Nadu Theater and Multiplex Owners Association, described the government's decision as a Diwali gift to the film industry, including Tollywood and Kollywood. He noted that previously, screenings in Tamil Nadu began after 9:00 AM, which impacted revenue compared to other regions where screenings often started at 6:00 AM. He stated that delays in local screenings, influenced by reviews from other regions, resulted in losses and prevented fans from attending early shows due to work hours.
Industry representatives believe this change will resolve these issues and lead to increased revenue for theater owners, as well as a projected 20 percent increase in tax revenue for the government. The association expects this regulation to benefit new films releasing during the upcoming Diwali festival. Thiruppur Subramaniam expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the government, while industry circles anticipate that this decision will contribute to record-breaking box office collections.
