Suryaa News Desk: Hemanth, also known as Dummu, the primary suspect in the chainsaw attack on students at the Raptadu government school, has been taken into custody by police. The arrest followed an encounter in the forest area near Atmakur on Sunday evening.

According to Anantapur SP P. Jagadeesh, the suspect entered the Raptadu Zilla Parishad High School on October 31 with a chainsaw and attacked a 15-year-old student in the classroom. He also injured another student who attempted to intervene. The first victim sustained severe injuries, including the amputation of her right arm, and was transported to a private hospital in Bengaluru via a green corridor for treatment. Following the incident, the suspect fled, switched off his phone, and hid in the forest.

Fifteen special police teams were formed to search for the suspect. Upon receiving information that he was hiding in the Atmakur forest area, police surrounded the location. Despite police firing two rounds into the air and ordering him to surrender, the suspect, who was reportedly intoxicated, attacked the officers with stones and a knife. Circle Inspector Venkateswarlu sustained injuries during this confrontation.

In self-defense, police fired six rounds, resulting in bullet injuries to the lower part of the suspect's waist. Hemanth was subsequently apprehended and transported to the Anantapur Government General Hospital (GGH), where he is currently receiving treatment under heavy police security.
