Suryaa National Desk: Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has stated that Rahul Gandhi’s challenge for a discussion regarding alleged voter theft, voter list revisions, and the functioning of the Election Commission of India (ECI) remains open. Tharoor’s remarks follow a challenge issued by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who urged Rahul Gandhi to address these allegations within Parliament rather than through public demonstrations.

During a rally in Karnal, Haryana, Amit Shah criticized Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that if the allegations of voter theft hold substance, they should be debated in Parliament. Shah claimed that the Congress party would be unable to handle the government's response and would leave the house. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also advised Rahul Gandhi, as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to utilize Parliament as the appropriate forum for such discussions.

In response, Shashi Tharoor maintained that Rahul Gandhi is committed to open and constructive dialogue. The Congress party alleges that thousands of eligible citizens have been removed from voter lists under the guise of special summary revisions, citing concerns over the misuse of Form 7 and the process involving Form 6. Tharoor asserted that the government has failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding these issues. He stated that Rahul Gandhi is prepared to debate the Prime Minister or the Home Minister on any platform and questioned whether the BJP is ready for such a discussion.

The political tension follows a symbolic protest held by the INDIA bloc in Delhi, where opposition leaders demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition parties argue that their efforts to ensure a transparent electoral process are being misrepresented by the BJP as an insult to Parliament. Tharoor reiterated that the opposition is not hesitant to engage in a comprehensive discussion on the voter dispute within the parliamentary forum.
