Suryaa Business Desk: Surya Global Tech Bureau, Hyderabad/Bangalore: Global tech giant 'Microsoft' (Microsoft) has announced voluntary exit for employees in three other countries including India... Surya Global Tech Bureau, Hyderabad/Bangalore: Global tech giant 'Microsoft' has officially announced a Voluntary Exit Offer (VEO) for employees in three other countries including India. The offer is applicable to around 60,000 eligible employees working in selected departments in India, US, UK and Canada, said the company's Chief People Officer Amy Coleman through an internal circular. The decision is aimed at streamlining operational costs at a time when huge capital expenditure is being spent on expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud data centers.

Attractive severance package without any age limit: Unlike the retirement schemes implemented in the past, Microsoft has made it clear that the latest voluntary exit offer has no restrictions on the age or length of service of the employees. Employees up to Level-70 (General Managers, some Vice President level officers) of the organization are also eligible to opt for this offer. Eligible employees will be provided financial compensation along with career planning resources and standard severance benefits. The management explained that this opportunity is being provided to support those who want to build their careers outside of Microsoft.

Applicable to selected departments – December deadline for decision: This voluntary exit offer is applicable to all departments of the company but only to selected teams like Windows, Devices, Xbox, Copilot, Finance, HR etc. Marketing, sales and key security departments are excluded from this. The employees who want to take up this offer have been given a deadline till the first week of December, and those who have accepted it will leave the company honorably by the end of this year. This issue has led to an interesting discussion in Indian IT circles as many techies from Microsoft's development centers with huge campuses in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Noida in India are coming under this offer.
