Torture for additional dowry right from the date of marriage: According to the victim, she got married to Sunil Kumar, an engineer in the UP Irrigation Department, on May 8, 2026. Even though the elders completed the formalities at the time of marriage, the husband and in-laws harassed her from the beginning, demanding extra cash, valuable jewelery and a car. They put a lot of pressure on her to bring another Rs.20 lakhs from her mother. When her family members refused to bring the amount, they confiscated her personal belongings and restricted her from leaving the house. The complaint states that the husband physically assaulted her while she was in the government quarters in Agra.
Case on Violation of Privacy and Harassment: On July 17 this year, the victim complained that her in-laws misbehaved and had to go into the room for self-defense and close the door. She further alleged that her husband stole the video of confidential medical consultation from her personal mobile phone and sent it to her relatives and threatened to leak the video on the internet if she approached the police. Responding to the matter, Ritu Tomar, in-charge of Mahila Police Station, said that an FIR has been registered under Section 74 of the BNS, which deals with outraging the dignity of a woman, cruelty, sexual harassment and criminal intimidation, and has expedited the investigation.
