Suryaa Business Desk: Surya Economy & Business Bureau, New Delhi: Private Corporate Capital Expenditure Plans (Capex Pipeline) in India are setting new records.... Surya Economy & Business Bureau, New Delhi: Private corporate capital expenditure plans (Capex Pipeline) in India are setting new records. According to a latest report released by Union Bank of India (UBI) Research, the value of total private sector projects announced by September 2026 has grown by 39 percent on a year-on-year basis to a cumulative Rs 99.7 lakh crore (roughly Rs 100 lakh crore). Significantly, the lion's share of the net growth recorded in the pipeline in the last two years has come from just two key sectors. IT-based services, conventional power sector windfall: A combined 87 per cent share of capital investment pipeline growth over the past year was recorded from the IT-based services (ITES/data centers) and power sectors alone: ITES: In just one year, the value of IT-based services projects has increased from Rs.2.2 lakh crore to around Rs.18.9 lakh crore. The reason for this is the increase in demand for large data centers and global capability centers.

Power & Manufacturing Sectors: New Rs 7.6 lakh crore projects have been added in the conventional power sector. At present, manufacturing sector (Rs. 41.3 lakh crore) and power sector (Rs. 32.2 lakh crore) together have a share of 74 percent of the total project value of Rs.100 lakh crore in the country. 5 states including Maharashtra, AP and Telangana account for 94%: Regional disparities are also evident in terms of concentration of investments, the report revealed: Maharashtra alone has a share of Rs 28.6 lakh crore in the country's total project pipeline of 29 per cent. In the last two years, 94 per cent growth in net expansion has been recorded from just five states—Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.

IT, Energy and Industrial Corridor projects are growing rapidly in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Growth driven by mega projects – Banks' warning: While the cost of announced projects has increased by 87 per cent in the last two years, the number of projects has increased by only 18 per cent. This means that this growth is recorded on the basis of huge mega projects and the comprehensive growth extended to the lower level is not yet visible in full, the report analyzed. It has directed the banking sector to scrutinize the implementation, power transmission facilities and repayment feasibility of these projects before sanctioning loans.
