Suryaa Sports Desk: Former head coach Ravi Shastri has stated that senior pacer Mohammed Shami should have been selected for the Indian team for the Test series during the tour of New Zealand.
Shastri remarked that Shami’s experience as a bowler creates an impact on the pitch that is significant for the team's success in foreign conditions. Drawing on his experience as a former coach, Shastri noted that Shami’s seam position and wicket-taking skills are well-suited to the conditions in New Zealand. He added that Shami’s speed and accuracy in red-ball cricket are unique, and having experienced bowlers in high-pressure Test matches provides a strength to the team management.
Shastri further mentioned that Shami is capable of swinging both the new and old ball and can serve as a guide for younger bowlers. He expressed the view that the services of such senior players are necessary to improve the team's chances of winning in major overseas series.
