Suryaa Sports Desk: Olympic medalist and star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has expressed surprise regarding the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Sindhu stated that Indian players did not receive any government funding to participate in tournaments held in Europe.
According to Sindhu, players were forced to cover their own travel, food, and accommodation expenses due to the lack of financial assistance. She noted that she had never encountered such a situation in her career. Despite the lack of support, Sindhu emphasized that she remained focused on her performance rather than withdrawing from the events.
The financial constraints also prevented several shuttlers from taking their personal coaches to the tournaments. Sindhu mentioned that players managed these challenges through personal funds and support from organizations like Olympic Gold Quest. Despite these conditions, athletes including Sindhu and Lakshya Sen participated in the European tournaments.
