Suryaa National Desk: Surya Irrigation & State Bureau, Hyderabad/Mumbai: The long-standing Pranahita-Chevella project between Telangana and Maharashtra, Tummidihetti Barrage... Surya Irrigation & State Bureau, Hyderabad/Mumbai: The Pranahita-Chevella project between Telangana and Maharashtra, which has been unresolved for years, has taken a crucial step to bring the Tummidihetti barrage issue to a head. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will have a special meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today (October 26) at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai.

The Chief Ministers of both the states will hold high-level discussions on the construction of Tummidihetti Barrage, its height, land acquisition and extent of cross-border flooding, which is crucial for North Telangana's irrigation needs. Telangana's hold on 152 meters: Maharashtra government has proposed to limit the barrage to +148 meters FRL (full water level) as per previous agreements. However, the Telangana government has made it clear that it is very necessary to build the barrage height to +152 meters in order to provide comprehensive irrigation to the northern Telangana districts like Adilabad, Nizamabad and others. In this meeting, CM Revanth Reddy will present the contour maps and technical reports prepared in collaboration with the Central Water Commission (CWC) that show that even if it is built at a height of 152 meters, there will not be any major flood impact in the territory of Maharashtra.

Ministers and senior officials of both the states to attend: In this high-level meeting in Mumbai, Telangana Irrigation and Drainage Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, top officials and engineers of the irrigation department of both the states will participate. The Revanth Reddy government, which has already negotiated the revival of the project with the Central Hydropower Department, is determined to clear the line for the construction of Tummidihetti directly by reaching a bilateral consensus with Maharashtra. There is a keen interest in the political and farming communities of both the states on the outcome of the talks between the CMs of the two states.
