SURYASPORTS DESK: HAMILTON:
The fifth and final T20I of the India tour of New Zealand 2026 is all set to get underway at the iconic Seddon Park in Hamilton. Finally breaking his toss-losing streak in the series, New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bowl first. Consequently, Team India will be setting a target in the final encounter. India currently holds an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, while the Blackcaps are looking to build on their victory from the previous game in Auckland.
First Batting Test for India – Shreyas Iyer:
At the toss, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer mentioned that he was actually looking to bat first anyway. He explained that India had chased in all the previous four matches of the series, making this a perfect occasion to test their batting capabilities in the first innings and understand how the pitch behaves. Reflecting on the defeat in Auckland, Iyer noted that the boundary dimensions were different there, but the bowlers have fresh instincts and plans in place according to what this wicket requires. India has made two changes to their playing XI, bringing in veterans Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Varun Chakaravarthy.
A Massive Challenge for Bowlers:
According to the pitch report, Seddon Park is traditionally New Zealand's smallest cricket ground, featuring incredibly short square boundaries of just 60 and 63 meters. Experts predict the pitch to be an absolute belter for batsmen with minimal sideways movement, though the new ball might offer some initial tennis-ball bounce before flattening out completely. Considering the ground history—including a thrilling Super Over finish the last time these two teams met at this venue—a high-scoring run-fest is highly expected tonight.
